Abstract: In the recent years, the field of Handwritten Text Recognition has seen dramatic improvements in accuracy and speed, especially thanks to new models using deep neural networks and the use of GPUs. However, there are still plenty of challenges to be addressed before we can have a truly general handwritten text recognition engine used by the general public.

In this talk, Joan will present some of the recent advances, including his recent work in using convolutional and LSTMs layers that awarded him the 2017 ICDAR’s Best Student Paper Award, as well as the main problems still to be solved.
