Julien is leading the Machine Learning for Robotics group.
His current research interests are deep learning and differentiable programming, reinforcement learning, machine reading and autonomous dialog systems.
Recently, Julien was recently appointed to the organisational committee for the Dialog Systems and Technology Challenge.
After an engineering degree in computer science and a masters in machine learning and artificial intelligence from the University of Paris Dauphine, Julien obtained his PhD in machine learning and autonomous computing from Paris Sud University, France.
During this period, he obtained the 2009 ChessBase award for the publication with most impact in the domain of control theory applied to strategic games, his research involved deep memory-enhanced recurrent neural networks for non-Markovian decision process learning.
After 2 years as a principal lecturer at Univ. Paris 12 in the domain of autonomous network systems, Julien Perez joined what was then the Xerox research labs in the fall of 2013 (NAVER LABS Europe since August 2017) as a research scientist in the Machine Learning for Services team.
